A simple process for Calgary Landscaping project

Have you thought about hiring out your Calgary Landscaping project?

Landscaping in Calgary has become an interesting profession these days as there are a few ways to go about a Calgary landscaper that is right for the job.

When engaging in any project, the first thing you want to start with is with a landscape design. It is the map you will follow throughout your project. If you don’t have a solid plan, it is easy to mess up.

This holds true even if you are building a garden, or one retaining wall. Function and aesthetics come to play big when creating anything for your backyard. Nothing is worse than making a mistake in the planning, only to realize that you have to re do something because you overlooked a fundamental issue. this is where having a Calgary Landscape professional to at least consult with is important.

I have been around the Calgary Landscaping scene in Calgary for a while now. It seems to me that people who want high end landscaping are spending about 20% of the value of their home on their their landscaping.

This is a rough figure to go have in the back of your head, by no means do you have to spend that kind of money, but that is for a top of the line super artistic, custom designed yard.

I have been a landscaper for close to 10 years now. This has made me realize what a nicely crafted landscape can do to the property value and satisfaction value of Calgary homeowners.

In a nutshell, here is the process:

1) Planning and dreaming: This part of the Landscaping process includes taking walks around your local Calgary neighborhood or other areas to find out what you like. From my experience the best places to do this are in Mount Royal, Elbow Valley and Discover Ridge.

There are a lot of higher end homes in these parts of Calgary and you can really see what is possible in Calgary.

Last, buy some books and check things out to get more landscaping ideas. The only thing to keep in mind with books is that not all landscaping materials and methods will be local to Calgary.

2) Consult with a Calgary landscape designer, or landscape company.

Many Calgary Landscaping companies will have some sort of design service. From my experience the best landscape designers will charge around the $1500 area. Some are definitely cheaper, but remember you get what you pay for.

Many Calgary Landscapers will work out a deal with the design if you go ahead and do the work.

3) Find a local Calgary Landscaper / do the work yourself

If you do decide to engage in the project yourself, make sure that you at least hire out the heavy stuff, like the excavation, as no matter how strong you are, it is likely that you won’t get down far enough to really make do the job properly. Stability is key. And it starts with building a proper base for your project.

Or you can find a landscaping company in Calgary to do the entire thing for you. This can be tricky as there are many Calgary Landscapers these days. The best thing to do is get references, ask to see a portfolio and use price as a good way to measure skill level. Again, remember the rule of thumb, you pay for what you get.

You do not want to rebuild your yard after it is done.

4) Completion! Make sure you grab a couple of cold one’s from the fridge and indulge in your brand new yard.
